The intensive care unit (ICU) at The Memorial Hospital of Salem County provides continuous monitoring and treatment of critically ill patients. Because patients in the ICU require specialized care, visitors should understand that their visit might be interrupted or cut short based on the needs of the patient and our doctors.
Nursing personnel assigned to our unit are not only specially trained in critical care but are also trained in the function and operation of our equipment. And through continued education, they stay abreast of developing trends and technology. Our ICU staff members also work closely with other departments such as radiology and oncology to provide patient care during special procedures that may occur outside the ICU.
Please note that admission to the ICU is made on the recommendation of the patient's attending physician. As soon as the patient's condition permits, he or she will be transferred to a unit of the hospital designated for general care.
