The Memorial Hospital's ICU offers area residents outstanding nursing and medical care for acutely ill patients. Nursing personnel assigned to the Unit are specially trained in critical care and in the function and operation of highly sophisticated equipment. Through continued education, they stay abreast of developing trends and technology. ICU staff members also work closely with other departments, such as Radiology and Oncology, to provide patient care during special procedures outside the ICU.
Admission
Admission to the ICU is made on the recommendation of the patient's attending physician. When a physician places a patient in the Unit, it is only to assure the delivery of needed intensive care. As soon as the patient's condition permits, he or she will be transferred to a unit of the Hospital designated for general care.
