Amy McKeever, RN, BSN: The Memorial Hospital of Salem County 2010 Patient Choice Award Winner
Listen closely to the people in the nursing care of Amy McKeever, RN, BSN, while a patient at The Memorial Hospital of Salem County (MHSC). A common theme comes shining through.
“Amy did a tremendous job taking care of me. She really cares about her patients.”
“She (Amy) took excellent care of me. I could not ask for anything more.”
“Amy really has a heart to help people. She is kind. She listens when she is talked to. She is a person of her word. If she tells you she is going to do something, she does it. She is trustworthy. She is a loving young woman. She deserves to be recognized for her work – it’s work that she does with her whole heart.”
There are many more patient comments, but the point is unmistakably clear, as summed up perfectly by this patient: “Amy makes you feel so important. She is kind, polite, caring. She gives you her best!”
Congratulations to 2 North/Telemetry staff nurse Amy McKeever, the community’s choice for The Memorial Hospital of Salem County’s “Nurse of the Year.” She was awarded the 2010 Patient Choice Award.
“Our patients have spoken –loud and clear,” said Chief Nursing Officer Patricia Scherle, RN, BSN, MHA. “It was apparent not only by the number of nominations we received on Amy’s behalf, but by the sincere and heartfelt comments expressed by one patient after another that made Amy a very good choice for this honor.”
“All our nurses are proud of Amy,” said Shani Henderson, RN, Nurse Director, Telemetry/2N, the unit where Amy works. “She combines two great nursing strengths: excellent clinical skills and compassionate for people. The nurses on the unit look up to her and respect her for what she brings to our patients.”
“Honestly, I love being a nurse,” Amy said. “It’s an honor to make feel their best when they are at their worst.”
Amy began her health care career at MHSC as a Unit Services Assistant (USA). She assisted nurses with patient care in ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). She found that she not only enjoyed the work but that it came natural to her.

While working as a USA, Amy attended Widener University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She graduated in 2007 and has been on staff at MHSC ever since.
