Welcome Ralph Falvo, PhD, RN, to the Memorial Hospital of Salem County (MHSC). Dr. Falvo serves as Director of Surgical Services.
Prior to joining MHSC, Dr. Falvo previously served as the Manager of Surgical services for Mercy Hospital in Portland, ME. Prior to that position he was employed as Director of Surgical Services for Inland Hospital, Operational Director/PCS Coordinator-Diversity for Inova Surgery Center, and Facility Director for Commonwealth Orthopedics — all in Maine.
In his career, Dr. Falvo ensured and supervised the construction, staffing and accreditation of two free standing ambulatory centers. Dr. Falvo led the successful accreditations for over 10 hospital operating rooms and ambulatory centers. Dr. Falvo developed a trans-cultural nursing department training curriculum for over 500 nursing staff members.
Dr. Falvo was recently published in the January 2009 edition of AORN journal for “Peri-Operative Fluid Management.” According to the article’s abstract, “This article provides perioperative nurses with the information needed to evaluate different fluid media and their applications and identify patient care considerations. Possible complications and important postanesthesia care concerns also are discussed,” (AORN J 89 (January 2009) 167–178. © AORN, Inc, 2009).
Dr. Falvo has spent time as an adjunct professor for nursing leadership for St. Joseph’s College of Maine.
Dr. Falvo is a member of the Trans-cultural Nursing Society, American Nurses Association, International Nurses Association, and the United Way Educational Task Force on Diversity. He is certified as a Nurse Administrator, and Nurse-OR.
Dr. Falvo served in the US Navy Nurse Corp. across the world, including Vietnam, from 1970 – 83. He reached the rank of Commander.
Dr. Falvo earned his Doctor of Science in Healthcare Administration and Master of Healthcare Education from Rouchville University in Maine. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Nursing from St. Joseph’s College in Maine.
Dr. Falvo was the recipient of the diversitycentral.com Diversity Champion in 2005.
