Feb. 2010 - Dr. Mohamed Salem Named Chief of the MHSC Medical Staff

Congratulations to Mohamed M. Salem, MD – recently named Chief of the Medical Staff for The Memorial Hospital of Salem County for 2010 and 2011.

An internist and nephrologist, Dr. Salem is a longtime physician in Salem County. He has been on staff at MHSC since 1985.

"Dr. Salem is one of the most respected physicians in the area," said CEO James L. Angle, MHSC. "We are fortunate to have someone with his breath and depth of experience – both in the community and here at the hospital. I look forward to working with him as he leads our medical staff over the next two years."

Dr. Salem recently served a two-year term as Vice-Chief of the Medical Staff. He serves on the MHSC Board of Trustees and on the Medical Executive Committee and Peer Review Committee. He served as chairman of the Credentials Committee from 2008 to 2009 and remains a member of the group.

Dr. Salem completed a fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Newark.

He completed his residency in internal medicine at United Medical Center in Newark. He received his medical degree from Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

"It has been an honor serving my fellow physicians and the hospital," said Dr. Salem.

"I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that will come my way in the new role of chief of staff."

Dr. Salem commended the work of his predecessor, John Amrien, MD, who served previously as Chief of Staff, noting that "he learned a lot working alongside of him."
